Winners awarded at Valley Public's Annual Sports Meet

Amid huge fanfare, Valley Public proudly presented medals and certificates to its student winners, and first and second runner ups for a wide range of event categories at its annual 'Sports Meet'.

For each sporting category, the School's Head Mistress, Deputy Principal, incharges, house teachers and school captains awarded our enthusiastic participants, for which sports play an intergral part in their lives in terms of development, discipline and comradery.

The school prides itself on the sportsmanship demonstrated by Valley Public students over the eight days — February 21st - 24th (Senior Sports Meet) and March 14th - 16th (Junior Sports Meet) — of events:

Seniors 4 – 9: Football, Basketball, Javelin Throw, Short Put, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Race, Table Tennis. Comprising events over three levels:- Seniors 4 and 5, 5 and 7, and 8 and 9 for two categories: boys and girls.

Juniors (Junior Nursery – III): Football, Maths Race, Sweet Race, Hot Potato, Long Jump, High Jump, Spoon Race, Skipping Rope, Musical Chairs, Essay Writing Race, Relay Race, Dressing Up Race, Paper Plate Race, Tortoise Race, and 100m Race.

Chaitra 5 (18th March)

Valley Public celebrate 24th anniversary with junior school parents' day/convocation

Valley Public's 24th Anniversary for Nursery to Grade VII students was attended by an overwhelming presence of parents, guardians and well wishers.

The two-part annual function commenced with opening remarks from the Honourable Minister of Health, Gagan Kumar Thapa, who delivered an inspiring speech fondly recalling his time as a child and the inspiration he drew from his mother.

Valley Public's Principal Krishna Prasad Adhikari and School Chairperson, Maj. Lilbahadur Gurung MBE led the second phase of the junior school speeches, which were followed by the eagerly anticipated dance, rhyme, singing performances, fashion show, and energetic kung fu demonstration, with the anniversary concluding with B-Boying dance.

Each student in their last year of pre-primary and primary education, grade UKG and V were presented with a mortarboard, scarf and certificate by dignitaries that included Prof. Dr. Madan Bista.

Valley Public Celebrates Saraswoti Pooja

On the auspicious occasion of Shree Panchami, Valley Public students, staff and local community members commemorated the birth of Saraswoti, the Goddess of Knowledge, Music, Arts, Wisdom and Learning. On this day we also celebrated the end of winter and the start of spring.

Valley Public students sang hymns and recited poems, and joined our guest Priest and Priestess in prayers on the greatness of Goddess Saraswoti, for wisdom, knowledge, patience, compassion and good health.

We also marked the day with a 'new alphabet initiative' to help and inspire young children to learn how to write the alphabet, with students offering flowers, tika, and prasad to Goddess Saraswoti.

Valley Public Higher Secondary School extends its special thanks to Dr. Yogi Vikashanand and Mr. Deepak Pandey for their sermons, inspiration and blessings to all our young learners at Valley Public.

Valley Public's young poet Manoj Dhakal wins poetry competition

Valley Public's Master Manoj Dhakal, along with his friends Pushkar Niraula and Bipika Basnet (IX), participated and won the '39th Anniversary Poetry Writing and Recitation Competition'.

Awarded a cash prize of NRs. 5,000 and plaque for this triumph, Valley Public Higher Secondary School congratulates Master Dhakal for his outstanding achievement in the competition, which was organised by the Chundevi Cooperative Ltd. and attended by prominent literary members of the capital.

Valley Public welcomes guests from Hong Kong's Fu Tak Lam Foundation

In quintessential Nepali spirit, Valley Public Higher Secondary School welcomed guest duo from Hong Kong, Mr. Martin White and Maj Chan Ho Yim to its Sundarbasti campus. Our guests were introduced to students at the morning assembly and then toured the school facilities, which included the IT Center and solar facility. Both of which were established following the 25th April 2015 earthquake, and made possible by the generosity and funding of Hong Kong-based charity organisation, the Fu Tak Lam Foundation.

Mr. Martin White and Maj Chan Ho Yim, who represent the Fu Tak Lam Foundation, commended the School's efforts in providing IT education to its pupils from an early age. Student trio of Sabina Subedi, Manoj Dhakal and Karuna Shrestha of Grade IX briefed our guests on the transformation of IT Centre after the devastating 2015 earthquake with a PowerPoint presentation. We are pleased that our esteemed guests expressed their commitment to return to Valley Public on their future visits to Nepal.

Poetry writing workshop conducted by Poet Dr. Devi Nepal from Tribhuvan University

Prominent Nepali poet and professor of Nepali at Tribhuvan University, Dr. Devi Nepal, hosted a one-day training workshop for Valley Public's aspiring young poets. Dr. Nepal taught our students the fundamentals of writing poems, how to create simple metric poems, and insights into the art and technique of poetry writing. It was encouraging to see over 50 'Literature Club' members attend the event and participate in the workshop sessions, with students writing and reciting their poems to fellow trainees and participants.

Dr. Nepal was 'overwhelmed by the amazing response and the creativity of our young students,' and he expressed his wishes and commitment to participate in future poetry workshops and events at Valley Public.

Valley Public and Himalaya Health Care Academy defend their titles in the 11th Inter School Basketball Tournament 2016

Valley Public Higher Secondary School and Himalaya Health Care Academy (HHCA) played in both the boys' and girls' finals of the 11th edition of the Valley Public Basketball Tournament. Hosts Valley Public defeated HHCA 39-11 in the Girl's Category and HHCA sealed the victory over Gyan Niketan School 55-23 in the Boys' Category. As reported by the Kathmandu Post, Valley Public, HHCA claim titles.

Valley Public inaugurates solar panel facility

Valley Public inaugurates solar panel facility

School International Adviser, Lt Col (Ret'd) Roger M Brumhill MBE, officially launched the 25 KVA solar panel facility at Valley Public Higher Secondary School in the presence of the school's Management Committee Chairman Maj. Lilbahadur Gurung MBE, guest duo Ms. Paullette Tsoi and Ms. Daphne Howat from France, staff and students. The solar panel facility was made possible through post-earthquake donations raised by Lt Col Brumhill and the generosity of the Fu Tak Lam Foundation, Hong Kong.

The solar panel system stands as a memorial to those members of the Valley Public family that suffered from the 25th April 2015 earthquake, and as an inspiration for all current and future students. The facility provides uninterrupted power supply to more than 80 school computers and lighting for the school boarding facility. Valley Public is thankful to its International Adviser and the Foundation in Hong Kong for showing exceptional generosity in raising and providing funds for the purchase and construction of the facility. 11th Valley Public basketball tournament commences

Valley Public basketball tournament (11th) starts

Valley Public's International Adviser, Lt Col (Ret'd) Roger M Brumhill MBE, officially inaugurated the 11th edition of much anticipated 2016 Valley Public Basketball Tournament by handing over the ball to the match referee during a program attended by students, staff, media, participating schools and sponsors.

40 teams comprising 24 boys and 16 girls will vie for titles during the event. The winners, runner-ups, most valuable player, best three pointer will be awarded trophies, medals and certificates at the conclusion of the tournament on 18th November.

All participating schools and players will receive certificates signifying Valley Public's basketball tournament, which started in 2005, and is one of the most anticipated school level basketball sporting events receiving wide media coverage. View more photos in our 2073 gallery.

Valley Public organises special Tihar program

Valley Public Tihar Celebration

To mark the occasion of Tihar, the festivals of lights, Valley Public organised its special 'Tihar Program'. Students took great pride in decorating their classes with rongoli, the traditional colorful sacred design on floors and doorways. Participants played deusi bhailo and performed cultural dances to our cheering audience of students and staff who all enjoyed the festivities. View more photos in our 2073 gallery.

Valley Public elects its new school 'Vice Captains'

Valley Public Vice Captains elected

Ms. Sabina Subedi IX and Master Manoj Dhakal IX were elected Valley Public Higher Secondary School Vice Captains. The announcement was made during morning assembly, and School Vice Principal Keshavraj Adhikari and CCA/ECA Incharge Aakash Karki felicitated our new vice captains with sacred clothes and vermilion power. Ms. Sabina Subedi and Master Manoj Dhakal both have demonstrated strong leadership qualities, are outstanding in their studies, as well as their extra-curricular activities. Valley Public kung fu player selected for World Championship in Italy

Chirag Poudel, Grade 9 student at Valley Public Higher Secondary School has been selected to compete in the World United Martial Arts Federation 'WUMA' Kung Fu Championship to be held in Italy from 27th to 30th November 2016.

At the June 2015 World Kung Fu Championship in Delhi Chirag Poudel was victorious in winning gold. With an intensive training schedule this year, the school's kung fu coach is optimistic about the sporting achievements in Italy during the tournament in November.

Valley Public 1st Runner-up at ISKON Vedic Quiz

Valley Public Higher Secondary School's Nistha Panthee (X), Manoj Dhakal and Tshering D. Sherpa (IX) represented Valley Public in successfully achieving '1st Runner-up' position at an event organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna.

Students were awarded certificates and trophies in honour of their participation at the conclusion of the event, which was held at Budhanilkantha School, Kathmandu.

Bhadra 28 - 29 (13th - 14th September)

Second phase of Valley Public's annual health camp concludes

In association with 'Heal Nepal', Valley Public Higher Secondary School held the second session of its health camp over two-days at school.

Phase two of the camp covered general diagnosis, including pathological tests and resulting laboratory analysis. Students were counselled on health and hygiene by participating health professionals. Opportunities such as this provide the school with a forum at which to educate our students on the prevention and treatment of any illness identified through test results at the health camp.

During phase one held in June, dental checks, eye examinations and blood grouping was conducted for Valley Public students.

5th Tenda-AIA Inter-School Basketball Tournament - 2016

Congratulations to Valley Public Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams who were both victorious in the 5th Tenda Awareness International Academy (AIA) inter-school basketball tournament. Competing against Nerik Academy in the finals, Valley Public boys scored 55-47.

Claiming the title Valley Public girls played HSCA in the finals scoring 51-11, with Sushma Gautam receiving the honour of being named 'Most Valued Player' at the tournament organised by Awareness International Academy, Shankhamul, Kathmandu.

At a separate ceremony, Valley Public's founder-principal, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, presented trophies to the School's the team captains and vice captains. View more photos in our 2073 gallery.

Valley Public's Junior boys 1st Runner-up played against Greenland Interschool in the finals scoring 39-24.Congratulations to our team and Laxman Pariyar, who was awarded the 'Highest Scorer'.

Chief Guest, Narendra Thapa, Senior Vice President of the Nepal Basketball Association presented the winners with trophies, medals and certificates at the closing ceremony of the tournament organized by Greenland International Secondary Boarding School, Gongabu, Kathmandu. At a separate ceremony held at school, Valley Public was pleased to award its winners trophies.

1st Mount Kailash Alumni Basketball Cup - 2016

Valley Public girls emerged victorious in the finals played against the Nepal Institute of Management and Science (NIMS) scoring 30-28. Valley Public's Pratikshya was awarded 'Most Valuable Player' at the basketball cup organised by the Alumni Association of Mount Kailash. At a separate ceremony held at school, Valley Public was pleased to award its winners trophies.

Guru Purnima (teacher's day) celebrated at Valley Public

Special thanks to Grade 10 Students at Valley Public who organised a special program for our teachers in celebration of 'Guru Purnima'.

We give recognition to our Grade 10 student duo 'Priyanka Gautam and Sushma Gautam' for their efforts in leading the team of organisers for the activities, which included cake cutting, dance, song, poem recitation, a jam session, and jokes.

Events such as this are an important way for students to show their gratitude to our teaching staff, who felt very proud on this day and felicitated with khada (sacred scarf) and gifts.

Inter-school poetry writing and recitation competition

In recognition of the 202nd anniversary of the birth of Nepal's first poet, Bhanubhakta Acharya, Riverra International School in Kathmandu organised the 2016 inter-school poetry competition.

All participants are commended for their ability to write and then recite their individual poems in front of the judging panel comprised of veteran Nepali poets and professors.

Special congratulations to Valley Public students: Pushkar Niraula IX (Winner of Rs. 4000 cash and certificate) and Manoj Dhakal IX (Second Runner up receiving Rs. 2000 cash and certificate).

Teacher's Development Training

Five day teacher professional development training held at Valley Public

English teachers from Valley Public and sister school Bhadrakali English Medium Secondary School attended the 2nd annual professional development training, which was held over five days.

The course designed and delivered by veteran teacher and advisor, Ms. Julien Hawthorne of Hong Kong, covered critical literacy, reading comprehension strategies, gradual release of responsibility (GRR), and lesson planning and execution.

The training sessions provided a forum for our dedicated teachers to engage in open discussion on new ideas, teaching techniques, and strategies that can be implemented in the classroom to assist students to develop to their fullest potential.

On the last day of training, facilitator Col. Roger M. Brumhill, School Int'l Adviser, UK, awarded teachers with a certificate of participation.

General health camp

Three-day general health camp concludes

With the health of our students at the forefront of our mind, Valley Public ran a three-day health camp at school in association with 'Heal Nepal', one of Nepal's most trusted health service providers.

It is of great importance to us to ensure our students are educated in best practices, prevention of health issues, and for them to receive early diagnosis and medical attention should this be required.

In the first phase, dental check, eye examination and blood grouping was conducted. The second phase of the camp to be held in Bhadra (Aug-Sept) will cover further general diagnosis and include pathological tests and resulting laboratory analysis.

Valley Public achieves 100% success in the public SLC test results again

18th Batch Farewell, Valley Public Higher Secondary School

We are thrilled to share the news of the School's 100% pass rate in the SLC Examinations held in March and April 2016. Since its establishment in 2050 B.S., Valley Public Higher Secondary School has been making history with a 100% success rate of students passing the school leaving certificate (SLC) examination, with an increasing number of students securing outstanding results.

In this year's results, 33% (a total of 97) of Valley Public students successfully achieved a Grade A+ score, with other students following closely behind.

We take this opportunity to congratulate all our new 'SLC Graduates' and their proud parents, while also expressing our sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, alumni and other supporters.

To honour this special occasion, Valley Public College will offer 100% scholarships to students securing 3.8+ GPA, and for a 3.6+ score, a 75% scholarship in either Science or Management stream.

Guest speaker Ms Jhamak Ghimire

Madan laureate and prolific writer Ms. Jhamak Ghimire visits Valley Public

In an inspirational visit from physically challenged Madan laureate and prolific writer Ms. Jhamak Ghimire to Valley Public Higher Secondary School, pupils and teachers gained a heightened awareness of not only realising the power of education in changing oneself, but also in changing the world.

In her thought provoking address to Valley Public students and staff, poet Ghimire urged them to regard education as their greatest wealth and also as a fundamental right. She concluded her visit with the important message: "Don't just be a good student, but be an honest and good human being".

Special thanks to Ms. Anita Lama for facilitating the visit. Our Valley Public family prays for Ms. Ghimire's sound health, a long life and a successful career.

Valley Public Guest Speaker Craig Murdoch and Master Manoj Dhakal

Guest Speakers from Hong Kong visit Valley Public

Valley Public students were privileged to welcome Craig Murdoch, a senior aeronautical engineer with Cathay Pacific Airways, and his two teenage children to the Sundarbasti campus. Craig gave a very interesting presentation on the theory of flight and associated aviation matters. His presentation included an interactive application enabling students to navigate themselves through all parts of an aircraft, an exercise that had particular appeal to the Valley Public students. At the end of his lecture Craig presented a model of an Airbus A330 in the livery of Cathay Dragon, the sister airline of Cathay Pacific Airways, to Master Manoj Dhakal from grade 9 for asking the best question.

Craig's children, Roan and Afton, presented an overview of Island School, their Hong Kong educational establishment, Hong Kong and their home country Scotland. Craig and his children have been invited back to Valley Public when it is hoped they will establish a lasting relationship between students and their respective schools.
